After another great sporting year, Boyle GAA’s Know Your Sport competition has drawn to a close. And there’s good news for long time leader Henri Clifford who has held on to claim the top prize of €500 with a winning score of 87. Next up is another club member Ray Hannon, with a score of 84, Ray claims the €200 second prize, and in third place two further points behind is Peter Keane of Ballinameen. Congratulations to the three winners and a big thank you to all of you who took part in the competition.

We hope to launch another Know Your Sport Competition in Spring 2016 so watch out for that.

Its going down to the wire

With just one event left, its still all to play for in Boyle GAA’s Know Your Sport competition. Long time leader Henri Clifford and Ray Hannon both chose Clann na Gael for the Roscommon Senior Championship to put them slightly ahead of the chasing pack.

So its down to the wire, the destination of the Webb Ellis Cup on Saturday 31 October will now decide who takes away the top prizes. We’ll be back with a final table at the end of the month, and for those of you who aren’t in the money this time, don’t worry, Know Your Sport 2016 is only a few months away

Up and Running

After many weeks of preparation GET ACTIVE TODAY with Boyle GAA, sponsored by Kelly’s Londis is now officially up and running. After an excellent talk from Niall Moyna in the comfortable surroundings of King House the hard work began in the St Joseph’s Boys school gym on Monday night when Aaron O’Connor and Conor McGowan put us through a tough but enjoyable Circuit Session.

This morning, Tuesday, under the cover of darkness over 20 people gathered on the Crescent for 7:00am for the Dawn Walk as walks coordinator Kit O’Connor led us on a 3K walk, with the more adventurous taking the 5K route.

Another walk is planned for tonight, while the next talk will be from Maria Keenehan on diet and nutrition and will be in the GAA clubhouse on Thursday at 7:30pm.

It’s still not too late to register and by joining up tonight you will benefit from the full package of incentives available:

GET ACTIVE TODAY with Boyle GAA

Boyle GAA are delighted to announce details of its latest initiative, GET ACTIVE TODAY with Boyle GAA. This is a seven week  programme, open to all, designed to help participants become more active through a variety of activities. The programme will be officially launched in King House by Professor Niall Moyna of DCU on Friday 2 October at 7:30pm.

The initiative, which is kindly sponsored by Kelly’s Londis, The Crescent, is designed for all levels of fitness and features walks, keep fit sessions, circuit training and an introduction to both yoga and pilates. In addition, all participants can attend three talks from a range of experts on exercise, nutrition and mental well being. The seven week programme will culminate in a 10K walk to Lough Forest Park on Sunday 22 November.
You can register on Monday 28 September between 7:30pm and 9:00pm in Learning Links, Elphin Street. You can also register on the night of the launch in King House. The cost of the seven week programme, including all talks and activities is €70

GET ACTIVE TODAY

Do you want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? Do you want to tone up, improve your fitness levels and maybe even lose weight? Do you want to achieve the goal of walking a 10K by the end of November?

Look no further than the GET ACTIVE TODAY with Boyle GAA initiative. An exciting and diverse programme has been prepared in which we will help each other to become more active by through a programme of gentle training, walking and an increased awareness of healthy eating. In addition when you sign up for our 7 week programme you will also be introduced to Yoga, Pilates and benefit from a range of talks from various professionals. The programme will run from 2 October until 21 November with at least 4 activities each week.

Internationally renowned expert, Professor Niall Moyna of Dublin City University who is well known from his role on the Operation Transformation series will be in King House on the 2nd October to kick start the programme.

Absolutely everyone, no matter what your current state of readiness might be, is welcome to come along and participate in a programme that will culminate in a 10K walk or jog from Boyle town centre to Lough Key.  You do not have to be an athlete, physically fit or a member of the club to start.  Some of the benefits of group exercise include exposure to a social and fun environment, a consistent exercise schedule and a workout that requires no prior exercise knowledge or experience.

A detailed programme together with registration details will be available in the coming days.

No change at the top

With Kenya and Jamaica winning 7 golds each at the World Athletics Championship, there was very little movement at the top of the table in Boyle GAA’s Know Your Sport competition. Henri Clifford, Trevor Conroy and Gerry Nerney retain the three top spots but David Galway, Maureen Keenehan and Brendan McDermott are new entrants into the top ten and have put themselves well into contention for the top prizes.

With five events still remaining the competition is still wide open. Check the latest standings below:
